✍️ Cursive is making a comeback here in Florence Township School District — and we’re so excited to share the news!
This school year, we’ve reintroduced cursive handwriting instruction into our curriculum for students in grades 3–5, helping our students build an important skill while connecting a classic form of writing with today’s classroom learning.
And today, we had a special visitor! 📰
A reporter from NJ.com visited Roebling Elementary School and Riverfront School as part of an upcoming story highlighting the return of cursive handwriting instruction. The reporter had the opportunity to observe cursive lessons in action and speak with our students and staff about their experiences learning and teaching cursive. Check out our 5th graders busy at work!

Our monthly Golden Apple Award recognizes and celebrates the exceptional contributions of our staff. Each month, one individual from each school will be honored for their excellence and dedication to the school community. Staff members can be nominated by colleagues, students, and/or families. Winners receive special recognition, a designated parking spot for one month, and a small gift.

NJSLA Score Reports Are Now Available!
Families can view their child’s spring 2026 NJSLA score reports in the Genesis Parent Portal.
To access your child’s report:
Log in to Genesis and select your child.
Click Documents.
Select school year 2026–27.
Click the PDF under NJSLA ELA-Math, as shown in the screenshot.
Please review the accompanying parent letter for additional information about the reports and family resources.
Questions about your child’s results? Contact your building principal or school counselor.

Our Annual Giving Drive is officially underway! This year, our Thanksgiving and Holiday Food Drives will help provide meals and holiday essentials for more than 100 Florence Township School District families.
We’re asking our Flashes students, families, staff, and community members to help by donating food items from the attached homeroom list. One item or several — every donation makes a difference!
🦃 We are especially in need of donated turkeys, monetary donations, and gift cards OR if you wish to sponsor a family for either Thanksgiving or the Holidays, please reach out!

Fight Like A Flash⚡️ No One Fights Alone💗
Today, our Florence Township Memorial High School students and staff came together for our annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk!
During PE classes, our Flashes walked together to show their support for those fighting breast cancer, honor survivors, and remember those we have lost. Thank you to everyone who participated and wore pink to help spread awareness, hope, and encouragement throughout our school community.

Attendance Pays Off!
Riverfront students have started the school year off strong, with an overall attendance rate of 96%! More than 200 students achieved perfect attendance in September.
Our top-performing class was 4th grade’s Mr. McGowan/Ms. Daly class, with an impressive 99% attendance rate!
Congratulations to our other grade-level winners:

6th Grade: Ms. Hertzberg’s class
7th Grade: Mr. Willis’s class
8th Grade: Ms. Kalup’s class
We are proud of all of our students for making attendance a priority. Our top performers will have tickets entered into the “Pie Mr. Pascal” Attendance Initiative - coming soon!
A special shout-out to Eva Kyeremeh, who was randomly selected to receive a Five Below gift card as part of our Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow initiative. She was one of many students in September who made it a priority to be in school every single day.
Another Congratulations to Meilan Park, our 4th Grade Student Present Attendance Drawing winner, who was randomly picked during lunch today for showing up to school today!

The Great Garbage Mystery!
Yesterday in Mrs. Schuler's class our 3rd graders became detectives as they explored my “neighbor’s garbage” to practice making inferences! Students examined the items for clues and combined them with what they already knew to draw conclusions about the person who might have thrown them away.
They learned that clues + what we already know = an inference! Just like detectives, readers use evidence to figure out things an author doesn’t directly tell us. #RoeblingRules
