Preschool FAQ
School Assignment/Student Placement:

‍‍What is the cost of the program?
Florence Township residents may take advantage of the program free of charge.

Are all Florence children guaranteed acceptance into the full-day preschool program?
While this is the ultimate goal, there are limited seats available during the 2023-2024 school year. Seats will be awarded via a lottery process with results of the lottery shared as soon as possible. After the lottery, any remaining seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. As we continue to expand our program over the next several years, we will strive to provide a program for additional Florence Township  children.

What are the locations of the preschool classrooms for the 2023-2024 school year?
In the 2023-2024 school year, the district will have classes offered in our school district and atour provider site (Harris Learning Academy), located across the street from Roebling Elementary School. The district will continue to establish this valued partnership with Harris Learning Academy, as we work toward our dedicated goal to offer a high-quality preschool experience to all students.

What is a provider site?
A provider site is a certified preschool program in Florence Township that chooses to partner with the district to educate preschool students enrolled in the Florence Township School District.. The district will partner with this provider site and use their classrooms to educate our preschool students. The in-district preschool program will be replicated at the provider sites. As a result, students attending the provider sites will receive the same high-quality instruction including all educational experiences outside of the classroom (field trips). The district will work with provider sites to ensure that all NJDOE curriculum, instruction, and assessment mandates are met.

Do I get to choose my child’s school placement?
Unfortunately, no. While we will consider distance from your home to our preschool facilities and any existing sibling connections to our schools, preschool is considered a “stand-alone” program and placement in the school of your choice is not guaranteed.

What do I need to do to have my student’s school assignment changed?
We are unable to accept and honor requests to change schools.  Our main goal was to place as many students in the program as possible.

What do I need to do for registration if my student is currently enrolled in the PreK Program 2023-2024)?
Students who are currently enrolled do not need to register again unless there has been a change in your residency. Students enrolled in the program will remain in the current classroom. Half day programs will be expanded to full day (8:50am-2:50pm).

Which facility will my child attend?
Students will be placed at random in classrooms with open spots. Students already enrolled in the Preschool program will remain in his/her preschool class and tuition will no longer be due as of December 1, 2023.

What is the age requirement for applicants?
Children must be 3 (or 4) years of age on or before October 1st, 2023 to be eligible for the 2023-24 Preschool Expansion.

Does my child need to be potty-trained in order to attend?
Yes. We understand that accidents happen, but we would like all students to be potty-trained.

Is there a half day option?
No. There is no half day program, all classes are full-day only.

How does my child get to school?
Parents/guardians are responsible to provide transportation.

What number am I on the waitlist?
We understand that families may want to know the number or their placement on the waitlist. While we will not provide the specific number we will provide an incremental range that should help you in planning for your child care needs.

What was the lottery process?
A virtual lottery system will be used to auto-generate random numbers and these numbers will be assigned to each applicant. Using these sequential numbers, students will be assigned a seat in the program. Once seats are filled, we will  place names on the waiting list in the event that a seat becomes available.

Will my child be able to tour or visit the school?
In early November there will be a PreK Open House.

Schedules: Will the preschool students follow the same schedule as the elementary school?
The preschool program start and end times will be as follows - 8:50 - 2:50

Will the preschool follow the same schedule for school closures?
